Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse, or failure to carry a pregnancy to term.
The main symptom is inability to conceive, often accompanied by irregular menstrual cycles, hormonal imbalances, sexual dysfunction, or recurrent pregnancy loss.
Infertility may result from ovulatory disorders, tubal blockages, endometriosis, low sperm count or motility, hormonal imbalance, PCOD, thyroid issues, stress, or unhealthy lifestyle habits.
In Ayurveda, infertility is called Vandhyatva, caused by imbalance in Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas, poor nourishment of Shukra dhatu (reproductive tissue), and obstruction in Artava Vaha Srotas (reproductive channels) due to Ama (toxins).
Diagnosis includes hormonal tests, semen analysis, ovulation tracking, ultrasound, HSG (Hysterosalpingography), or laparoscopy depending on the suspected cause.
Follow a nourishing, sattvic diet with ghee, milk, nuts, dates, whole grains; avoid spicy, fried, junk food; practice yoga, meditation, and adequate sleep; avoid smoking, alcohol, and late nights.
