Pilonidal sinus is an inflammatory swelling in the natal cleft above the buttocks which generally contains tuft of hair, commonly found in young people
The commonest site is natal cleft but we often find pilonidal sinus in the umbilicus, axilla, interdigital area and inter mamillary area of the breast
MEDICAL MANAGEMENT
Acute pilonidal abscess can be managed with medication
Chronic pilonidal sinus can be managed with incision and drainage
MANAGEMENT BY SURGERY
Surgery is the only option for chronic Pilonidal Sinus
Even though there were lot of treatments available there is a high rate of recurrence and no modern technique proved 100 percent successful in preventing recurrence.
At Nalam Ayurveda, we perform Kshara Karma and Kshara Sutra treatments as outpatient procedures under local anesthesia, followed by regular dressing with Ayurvedic medicated oils, allowing patients to resume normal activities the next day, ensuring effective healing with no recurrence or complications; Dr. Arulpathy Murugesan has documented and successfully treated rare forms of pilonidal sinus, including umbilical, axillary, and intermamillary pilonidal sinuses, and is credited with inventing a specialized Ksharakarma technique and a customized Kshara Sutra method for pilonidal sinus, achieving high success rates in numerous cases.
